| Debonshire is located in the lake country region of Northeast Texas. I inherited some property from my parents in the small town of Mt. Vernon, and being a city kid, I had no interest in raising cattle, horses, chickens or pigs. With encouragement from friends and a love for small animals, my husband and I decided to raise Chihuahuas, so in December of 2005 we founded Debonshire Kennels. We have a facility that provides plenty of space for our adult dogs, a controlled environment for our "ladies-in-waiting" and puppies, and plenty of handling and love. We were fortunate to have a nice sized storage building that we have turned into a whelping/nursery house. The building is heated and cooled and accommodates the moms and babies very well. The moms have access to a large exercise yard.. Our breeders are outside in 4'x8' (some larger) pens which are partially covered and are surrounded by trees. These dogs also have access to a large exercise yard. We have a wood chipping mill just a few miles from our home so our pens and exercise yards are floored with cedar chips. We maintain a regular schedule of care for our dogs - shots, worming, etc. All of the "Lords" (sires) and "Ladies" (dames) of Debonshire are special, and just like people, dogs have their own personalities and temperaments and we treat them accordingly, but mostly we just love them. |
